'''POWER OUTAGE AT AAPT BRISBANE EXCHANGE
Expect Internet and power outages to increase. Take care.

About 11am Wed 22nd. Feb. 2006 a water pipe burst, flooding part of the building at the Riverside Center in Eagle Street housing the AAPT telephone exchange and the 3rd Party room for for most major ISP's in the Brisbane CBD where they house equipment for [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peering peering] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_Transit_%28Internet%29 IP Transit]. As a result of the flooding the power to that floor had to be cut off for safety causing a major Internet and telephone service outage. The Internet equipment went on to batteries which ran out about 1pm. Broadband and hosting services were restored when the eletricity was restored about 5:30pm. However the AAPT exchange suffered major damage and replacemnt equipment had to be freighted in.

''Update Friday 24th. Feb 9am''

Phone lines (Office and dialup modem in Brisbane) are partially working as they are AAPT ISDN lines directly connected via fibre optic to the damaged Riverside exchange, the dialup modems lines have already been restored but may give conjested signals from some areas. We hope the office phones are back up soon, and thank you for your patience.

''Update SATURDAY 24th. Feb 9am''

Office phones seem to be restored.

'''WEBMAIL CHANGES'''

Introducing the web-based email program called Openwebmail (a replacement for Neomail) which can be accessed via a browser http://mail.eis.net.au or for our Web Hosting clients type www.yourdomainname.com.au/webmail is proving to be a great success.

There are many benefits for using Openwebmail as we have detailed below:
* You are free to read emails from computers other than your own computer ie, work, internet cafes, on holidays, etc.
* Openwebmail gives you the option of checking and deleting your emails without actually downloading them into your mail program-this is beneficial, specifically where problems like computer viruses are concerned.
* If you are having trouble downloading your emails with your email program, log onto Openwebmail and check to see that you haven't got a particularly large email clogging your mailbox. This allows you to delete the problem email without trying to wait for it to download on your computer.
